Collings Lakes Fire Dept own Carrie Ellsworth  Harvey Brother wins firefighter of the year in her home town 5 Mile Point Fire Company NY

Town of Kirkwood, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A volunteer firefighter who saved the life of a drowning 2-year-old gets special recognition tonight from the Broome County Firefighter's Association.

Scott Ellsworth from the Five Mile Point Fire Company is Broome County's Firefighter of the Year

On July 10th, the son of Ellsworth's cousin nearly drowned in a swimming pool.

When he was pulled from the water, the boy was not breathing.

Ellsworth performed CPR, and with the help of others and an AED, was able to bring the boy back to life.

"I never thought in a million years I'd be getting this award. I still am shocked and there's so many calls that go on out there in the county. There are guys out there, in my opinion, who are more deserving of this, but I am certainly grateful and appreciative," said Ellsworth.

Ellsworth is a third generation firefighter in his department.

Broome County Executive Debbie Preston also presented a him with a citation.

03-01-2012, All Hands Dwelling, Monroe Twp. (Cecil), Gloucester County, 115 Jasmine Ln.

On March 1, 2012, at about 9:50pm, the Cecil Fire Co. Sta. 29-5 was dispatched to 115 Jasmine Lane for a reported all hands dwelling. Responding units were advised that numerous callers were reporting a working fire. 29-501 arrived with a single wide mobile home fully involved with possible entrapment and requested additional units from Williamstown Fire Co. Sta. 29-1, and Collings Lakes Fire Co. Sta. 12-3 to be dispatched to the scene. Command reported all occupants were out of the dwelling. Engine 29-11 was requested to the rear of the building to protect the rear exposure. Crews made an aggressive attack and quickly knocked down the bulk of the heavy fire. Crews remained on location for some time for extensive overhaul and to wet down remaining hot spots. Monroe PD and the CFM are investigating.
